Improvements
We're happy to announce quite a few improvements to the Blog app!
Brand new administration layout
The first thing you'll notice is a more organized, cleaner layout for the Blog app. The app is divided into 3 sections: "Posts, Comments, and Settings". You can navigate between them by clicking the links at the upper right of the app near the red "X".
Comment Options
Probably the area of the most significant improvements, we've added two new options related to commenting:
- Login required for commenting - this per-post setting requires the commenter to login before commenting, ensuring that a valid profile exists.
- Comments require approval - this blog-wide setting allows you to send all comments through an approval queue before the comment goes public.
Notifications
We also added a notification system that can email one or more addresses when comments are made on your blog. The email includes the comment itself and the name of the commenter. There's also a convenient link to the blog app so you can jump right into comment moderation. Now you don't have to babysit your blog.
Tagging
Blog posts can now be tagged! Tags are a great way to organize your blog. For those who are unfamiliar, a tag is like a category or label. You can add as many as you'd like to your blog and it helps group similar posts. Readers can filter your posts through a list of tag links in your side navigation (if enabled on your page template). This option is available under the blog's Settings section.
Archived vs Unpublished
We've done away with the concept of "archived" or "not archived" for blog posts. It was just plain confusing. Now we're using a "published" or "unpublished" status. In this new model, your list of posts will show all posts together, so items that are archived or "unpublished" are easily seen inline with your published posts. This also makes it easy to separate the "Save" action from the "Publish" status.
Monthly Archives
Until now, there was no great way to keep lots of posts on your blog without them all being on your front page. Now the blog will build an archive by month automatically. Readers can filter posts by month through the new list of month links in your side navigation (if enabled on your page template). This option is available under the blog's Settings section.
Front Page Options
The front page of a blog is make or break. That's why we're giving you more options:
- Full post on front screen - currently all blogs show a plain-text summary of the blog post on the front page. You can now override this setting and show the full-length, full-html post right on your front page. This option is available under the blog's settings section.
- Post limit on front screen - you can now limit the number of posts that will show up on the front page of your blog. This keeps your blog looking tidy and readers can still access old posts through tags, monthly archives or direct link.
Post Date control
Wish you could change the date of your blog post to something other than right now? Now you can! Set a time in the past or, to prepare for the future, set a future date and time and your post will appear at the proper time.
These great new options have been setup so they have minimal impact on existing blogs, for those who like things the way they are. But for those of you who want to "upgrade" your blog, here are 5 recommended steps…
- Start Tagging - turn on tag navigation and start tagging your posts. You can even go back into old posts and tag them too.
- Archive It - turn on your monthly archive navigation.
- Full Posts - UNCHECK the option to "display blog summary" so that your full blog posts show up on the front page of your blog.
- Comment Notification - add your email address to the comment notification box. This will save you from having to check your blog for activity.
- Complete the look - If your blog doesn't look quite "bloggish" enough using your current page template, let us design a new template for you! To ask questions or get the ball rolling, give your account rep a call or email info@speakcreative.com.
We hope you enjoy these improvements.

Since this editor is used in many places throughout the system, this was a major update to help you work easier! Important Maintenance Notification May 31, 2009 12AM - 6AM CDT
Planned Intermittent System Outage
In order to ensure ideal conditions and to promote maximum server uptime, we monitor power usage, cooling efficiency, and port density in our data center facility. We have identified areas where a bios firmware update is necessary to bring all devices to the current manufacturer recommendations.
All services will be unavailable at some point between 12AM and 6AM. We strive to perform all maintenance with as little downtime as possible to minimize any negative impact. Based on our research and preparation it is unlikely that service will be interrupted for very long, but unintended consequences may occur. Once the maintenance operation is complete, we will post a notification that all services are up and running reliably. Such maintenance operations are necessary and provide benefits in added system performance and stability.
During this time, our servers will have their bios flashed and a REBOOT performed. Our technicians will be on-hand and ready to respond to any issues that may occur and all devices can be reverted back to their original state if need be. After the maintenance is complete a verification script will be run up to seventy-two hours to validate all results. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for trusting us with your website.
Release 5-6-2009
This release focused heavily on our podcasting feature, Mass Mail module, and photo gallery page part. We also released our new interface for SiteWrench to help improve the end user experience!
- SiteWrench System: New User Interface! This features our new full width interface with several improvements throughout the system.
- Podcast Feed: Publish Date previously displayed incorrect within Itunes. This issue has been resolved.
- Podcast Feed: Itunes Author previously displayed as 'Unknown'. This issue has been resolved.
- Podcast Feed: Updated subtitle length to include more characters.
- Podcast Feed: Certain clients experienced issues where entries marked as 'Include in Podcast' would not be included. This issue has been resolved.
- Podcast Feed: Added 'Title' tag to the feed to allow for the archive name to be used for the Podcast name.
- Podcast Feed: Added the 'Link' tag to the feed to allow for a link back to the main website.
- Mass Mail: Improved User Interface. There is now a easier process to create and send enewsletters as the compose screen now contains most of the settings for the enewsletter. This new screen includes the template choice, sender information, reply to address, list management (recipients), and organization information. We also updated the editor to be larger on your screen when editing.
- Mass Mail: New Send Process. Scheduled enewsletter sendouts only. Enews will now have to be scheduled at a future time to send out. You will no longer be able to click a 'Send Now' button. This prevents mistaken sends and gives you a safety net of time in case you need to come back to the enewsletter to edit something before it is sent. By default, the initial sending time will be 3 hours out of the current time. If you need to edit a scheduled enewsletter, you will need to cancel the pending send, edit, and then reschedule your sendout.
- Mass Mail: Removed 'Issues' of an enewsletter. You will now have to create a new enewsletter for each sendout. Therefore, a sent enewsletter is un-editable, however you can still view its reports.
- Mass mail: Easier List (Recipient) Management. Data Views are easier to understand and read.
- Mass Mail: Updated list description field to contain more data for your list description.
- Mass Mail: New Reporting Features! We are now reporting on several factors for your enewsletter! This includes the following per enewsletter that was sent: total number of recipients, number of unique views, number of opens, suuccessful open rate, detailed information on users that opened the enews including username, date and time opened, and mail list name that they were a part of.
- Store: Search function updated to only display the results to include active products only. Previously, archived products would still display in the results.
- Photo Gallery: You can now pull in images from your Flickr account to be displayed in your photo gallery.
- Photo Gallery: Option added to turn 'on' and 'off' the caption setting.
- Photo Gallery: Option added to select the default thumbnail size to be shown for the thumbnails in the gallery.

If a member tries to access a password protected page and they are not logged in, they will be given a login screen. Upon successful verification, they will see the page's content, and bypass the member profile screen.

- Store: If "show MSRP" option is on AND "hide our price" is on… List view: "$205.00" Detail View: "$205.00 USD" we should display "MSRP: $205.00 See "price in cart" in all views.
