How do I install a calendar page part on my page?
Go to the page where you'd like to install a Calendar page part. Select the "Install a page part" button, then the calendar, and add it to your page. The page will refresh, and then you can begin adding events by selecting your date.
How do I add events to my calendar?
Access and edit the page where you would like to add a calendar page part. Once you have installed the calendar page part on the page, click on the day you would like to create a new event and begin the event entry process.
How do I edit and delete existing events?
Click on the event name to edit the event's details. Should you need to delete an event click the 'Delete' button. Decide if you want to delete the entire event (if it's a recurring event) or just delete an exception to the series.
Can I edit instances of recurring events if just that day's events needs to be cancelled?
Yes. Click on the event name on the day you are wanting to edit or delete and make sure the checkbox that says "update series" is unchecked. This will allow you to edit just the single event instance by selecting "Save Exception."
Can I import events from my external calendar that I use such as Google Calendar or my Outlook?
Yes. Currently, this function is in BETA however we've been very pleased with its functionality. Click on the 'Settings' tab of your calendar page part and then you will see the area to import events from an external source.
The calendar importer allows you to use a third-party calendar system, like Google Calendar or Apple’s iCalendar, and feed it directly into the SiteWrench calendar.
To import a feed, paste in your feed url in an .cal or .ics format. When you import a feed, the public calendar view pulls live from the feed instead of SiteWrench. You will never see any events in the SiteWrench calendar admin when you use the feed, you will manage it totally from your original calendar.
To import events from your local calendar program such as Google Calendar, Outlook, Entourage, or Apple Mail, upload your file of events in the .ics or .ical formats. Importing events is a manual process that you control. Once you import your events, you can update them through SiteWrench. Updating on the original calendar service (Google, Outlook, iCal) will not automatically pull through to SiteWrench.
The ServiceU import allows you to automatically pull in events either by Category or Departments from the third party service, EventsU.
Option 1: You have the ability to do a manual import yourselves from ServiceU to SiteWrench. This would bring existing information from your ServiceU events into SiteWrench, where you could then edit the events within SiteWrench. However, depending on how often you do an import, you'll need to note that the events on your EventsU calendar will override any changes you have made in SiteWrench.
Option 2: We can do an automatic nightly import from ServiceU either by Category or Departments to the SiteWrench calendar. You may request a nightly import by filling in your API key and contacting our support team at firstname.lastname@example.org. But there are a few important things to make note of -- The nightly importer is a sync but it lets ServiceU data trump SiteWrench data. If you update an event description in SiteWrench it will get overwritten by the ServiceU description in the next sync. Also if you add events in the future in SiteWrench, they will be deleted if they didn't originally come from ServiceU - the only way to add new future events is through ServiceU.
How does the calendar work with the widget of 'upcoming events'?
The upcoming events widget will pull in events from any calendar page part on your site. You can specify events from an entire calendar or a specific category that you have associated events with. Read the upcoming events widget help article for more details.
Can I display the calendar as a list view?
Yes. Click on the 'Settings' tab of your calendar page part and you will see the available views and associated options with them. You can choose a 'calendar' view which will display the standard calendar grid, 'List', which is a simple listing of the events, or a 'detail list' view which will display a more detailed listing of each event on your page.
Below is an example of the 'Detail List' view that has been custom styled to match the look and feel of the website is was being used on.
What are calendar categories?
You can create categories for your calendar that you can associate to each event you create. This is done when adding or editing an event in the 'Optional Info' tab. Categories can then be used to filter your events on your calendar to just a specific category when visitors are viewing the calendar. This is also used for the 'upcoming events widget'. Can I link up an event registration to an event calendar item?
Yes. When adding or editing an event, click on the 'Optional Info' tab and then see the 'Registration' area. This will display a drop-down list of all the registration page parts on your site. Please note, you must set up a registration page part first before anything will display in the drop-down list. If a registration is selected, when someone is viewing this event, they will see an extra link labeled 'Register Now' which will direct them to the registration form. You can also include a registration inline with the event details rather than redirecting users to a new page where the registration page part is included. Check the box to 'load form on event details page'.
Can I have a 'short' quick access url for individual events?
Yes. You can enter this per event on the event's settings. An example would be routing viewers directly to an event on our training page such as: https://support.sitewrench.com/training-calendar/entry/shortcut/instance/6-2-2016
If you use this shortcut functionality, you must also add /instance/date to the end of the URL string in order for it to pull up the proper event, like /training-calendar/entry/shortcut/instance/6-2-2016.
Can someone viewing the public calendar on my website submit individual events to it?
Yes. When visitors are viewing the public calendar and want to submit an event to add to the calendar, it's submitted to the email set in the admin. This person will access the admin and review the event and then they can approve or reject it. Both routes send an email to the submitter. Events that are approved get added to the calendar and are removed from the pending list.
